Frequently Asked Questions

So what’s the deal with your wedding?

Ah yes, good question. Global pandemics have a way of throwing a wrench in your plans. Long story short, there were a lot of complications, BUT we decided that we are going to get married this year. And so, we are going to elope on October 17, 2020, followed by a virtual reception to raise a toast with everyone we care about, and a small in-person reception. We didn’t feel comfortable asking people to travel this year, but still wanted to officially tie the knot and find a way to celebrate with everyone. If you made it here, we want to celebrate with you, one way or another.

How is the virtual reception going to work?

This page has all the information you need. Everyone should plan to log on at 3:30 PM ET (new time), and we’ll place you in virtual meeting “tables” with your friends/families. Then Phil and Kellen will make the virtual rounds, popping in to each group to have a toast, say hi, remind you to unmute, etc. It’ll be much better than virtual work meetings, because these are people you (mostly) want to see and drinking is encouraged. Make sure to check the tech requirements before you join the reception!

How is the in-person cocktail party going to work?

Splendidly, let us tell you. We have the full run of Maketto, a spacious restaurant and cafe on H St. NE. It’s one of our favorite spots. In fact, when Phil and Kellen first went there, it gave them an LA-vibe. It really ties together the East- and West Coast thing we have going here, you know? Anyway, the food and drinks will be great and plentiful. The only downside is that we can’t invite everyone.

We are taking safety guidelines very seriously and are working with our vendor team to ensure a safe and joyful guest experience including:

  • Limiting our guest count to under 50 per DC current guidelines

  • Providing both outdoor & indoor seating options

  • Staggering vendor load in and limiting staff

  • Reserving tables for family and friend pods

  • Hand sanitizing stations and masks will be readily available

  • Contactless greetings – we love a hug, but a long, deep bow is just as good… start stretching

Note: The reception will now start at 5:00pm (previously 6pm) to take advantage of the autumn daylight.

Doors will be wide open to the courtyard and tables will be set for social distancing.

If you’re feeling unwell or may have been at risk for exposure, stay home and toast with us virtually!

How do I get to Maketto?

Maketto is located at 1351 H Street N.E., Washington DC 20002.

If you’re travelling from within DC, we suggest Uber or Lyft because parking in the area will be limited, whereas the drinks will be unlimited. You could also take the Streetcar from Union Station and get off at 13th St., if you feel so inclined.

If you do need to drive, we suggest looking for street parking on H St, 13th St, Maryland Ave., or Florida Ave. We don’t recommend going down Benning Rd. or Bladensburg Rd.

What’s the dress code?

This is a popular question. We’re keeping it fun with a touch of fancy, so go for a creative cocktail look.

For men, suits are welcome as are a more casual slacks + jacket combo. Ties are optional. Fun patterns are a plus!

For women, your favorite cocktail dress, an LBD, or a fun pantsuit will do just fine!

The key here is to dress in layers! It’s fall and most of the event will take place in an outdoor/indoor setting in the evening, so we want everyone to be comfortable.

I have more questions!

Get in contact with Phil or Kellen directly. If you got a Save the Date, you already have our numbers. Phil’s the more responsive one.
